The outputs of the XE-8000 are connected to the gate actuator system. It can open and close the gates when it receives commands sent to it as SMS messages. This allows the plant engineers to remotely open or close the gates from the Distributed Control System (DSC), or from their mobile phones if they are out of the control room. Caller ID and PIN numbers provide user authentication to ensure plant security. Because the XE-8000 supports two-way communication, confirmation messages can be returned to the DCS when the gates have moved. The engineers can query the gate status from their mobile phones at any time.
The XE-8000 can be reconfigured without visiting the site. When there are staff changes, the user list inside the XE-8000 can be amended remotely using the configuration tools in the Advanced Information Networks’ website. The website sends the new configuration to the XE-8000 via SMS.
